About the Ryder Family
The Ryder family have been in beef farming for three generations.
Brian, who has spent a lifetime in farming has 3 daughters and four
grandchildren, the eldest (7) has already expressed an interest to
follow his grandfathers footsteps into farming.
The three daughters are all connected with agriculture in some way
or another. Heather is into dairy farming, Lesley, into beef and sheep,
whilst Liz concentrates on beef and is the director of Manor Farm. |
About
the farm
We have 350 acres comprising of two farms specializing in beef and
maize grown on a heavy loam soil. We keep 500 feeders and 90 suckler
cows, being a mixture of Limousins and Belgian Blues. Two thirds
of the animals are bred at the farm, whilst the others are brought
in from a farm assured farm.
The site has a disused railway track which extends to approximately
3/4 mile, and has been left to nature. This is now a site of biological
importance for birds and wildflowers. Nesting buzzards are a particular
favourite visitor to the site, whilst 30 other different kinds of
birds are currently being tracked and recorded.
Liverpool University uses the site for study and trials for upcoming
vets. The farm is part of the Coutryside Stewardship Scheme, and
also belongs to WAAG.
